Indian Building Materials Industry- Talent Demand is Booming

India’s building materials industry is undergoing a hiring transformation. Over the last two years, the sector has seen a 30% surge in recruitment—a clear indicator of the growing demand for infrastructure, urban housing, and industrial development.

What’s driving this surge? And where is the talent needed the most? A recent report provides some fascinating answers.

A Sector on the Rise-

According to the ‘Building Materials Sector – Talent Trends and Insights’ report by staffing firm Ciel HR, hiring in the sector rose significantly between January 2023 and January 2025. With urbanisation accelerating and the real estate and construction industries expanding, the need for skilled professionals has grown at an unprecedented pace.

Today, the sector employs over 5.5 lakh professionals across India—and that number is only expected to rise. The report suggests that rising disposable incomes are fueling a boom in construction and urban development, which in turn is bolstering the building materials sector.

New-Age Skills in High Demand-

The report, based on inputs from 105 companies and analysis of 2,763 job listings, highlights a crucial shift: companies are no longer just hiring for traditional roles—they’re actively seeking tech-savvy, future-ready talent.

There’s a growing demand for expertise in:

  • 3D Printing

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI)

  • Internet of Things (IoT)

  • Material Science

  • Sustainability & Green Certifications

  • Lifecycle Analysis

This clearly signals a move toward digitally enabled and environmentally responsible operations.

Who’s in Demand?

If you’re a professional in this space (or hiring for it), here are the top roles currently seeing the highest demand:

  • Plant Manager

  • Production Manager

  • Supply Chain Manager

  • Sales Manager

  • Environment & Sustainability Specialist

  • Design Engineer

  • R&D Engineer

  • Quality Control Engineer

  • Structural Engineer

  • Safety Engineer

These roles span both the technical and strategic sides of operations—showing that the sector needs both innovation and execution to scale.

Diversity Still a Challenge-

Despite the rapid growth, there’s a clear gap in gender representation. Women account for just 12% of the workforce in the building materials sector—among the lowest across major industries. Bridging this gap will be crucial for inclusive and sustainable growth.

Hiring is Metro-Centric-

Another key insight from the Ciel HR report: 81% of current job openings are located in Tier I cities, with hiring concentrated in:

  • Hyderabad (14%)

  • Bengaluru (13%)

  • Delhi/NCR (12%)

  • Chennai (8%)

  • Ahmedabad (7%)

  • Pune (7%)

These metros continue to be the hubs of industrial expansion, offering the most opportunities for professionals and job seekers.
